The Exhibition
FLUX directs the beholder to fascinating details that don’t catch the eye at first sight and to new perspectives that spark curiosity. Setting focus exclusively on the topic of Murano glass the artist depicts certain moments of the constant flow which the material is underlying during the process of being transformed into artistic glass artworks; while at the same time, in each of these between-conditions, already embodying art itself. Furthermore Birgit shows exciting transitions of shade, shape and state of matter, of different worlds and realities, alluding to the permanent change of things reflected in the universe of glass. The images portray the typical colours, the richness and the light of Venice which can be found in those “artworks of transition” and so mirror their close connection to Murano, the city and the Lagoon. Everything flows combined with a glimpse into the soul of Venice.
* Many thanks to Vetreria Anfora and Barbini Specchi, Murano, for allowing to take photographs in their workshops, and to Tristano di Robilant for permission to show details of two of his unfinished artworks!
The Artist
Birgit Salzmann devotes herself to painting and photography. She is interested in extraordinary motifs and details which she captures in images each one telling a story. When not at her home in Marburg, Germany, she is inspired by travelling, for example to English speaking countries, regularly to France and Italy, and for more than thirty years particularly often and extensively to Venice which has become a second home.
Birgit studied English, French and German philology, art history and philosophy; as a scientific librarian she worked in the field of medieval manuscripts and illuminations and today, in addition to visual arts, occupies herself with the art of linguistic expression by translating literature, preferably with Venice as its backdrop.
Her photo exhibition OLTRE LA FACCIATA / BEYOND THE FAÇADE – Venice in details was shown in Venice (IMAGINA , Hilton Molino Stucky) 2025 and 2026, subsequently in Wetzlar and in Marburg, Germany, 2026; followed by THE LIGHT WITHIN in Marburg July/Aug 2026.
